How our upcoming desktop apps will give you all the flexibility you need…


As the CEO of DropTask, my role is both exciting and challenging all in one.

I live for every moment in life and love to take on new challenges – especially ones that allow me to be my best.  I’m also a mom, a grandmother and a wife, so balancing it all is quite the juggling act.  I always have many balls up in the air and it’s critical that I minimize the chance of dropping any.  Utilizing DropTask to make sure I know what I have on my plate today, tomorrow, next week and sometime in the near future is key to making sure I can prioritize things in my personal life in addition to what’s happening at work.

I manage a global organization which requires the ability to work extremely flexible hours.  Not only flexible according to the time of day, but also in the places you need to be.  Imagine life 20 years ago, when productivity on a train, plane or automobile was restricted to reading materials and note taking using pen and paper. Things are much different now. At DropTask, our team is spread across three time zones in multiple continents so having a product that allows me to work offline as well as online is so important to my ability to be productive no matter where I am or what I am doing.

As I travel from the U.S to reach my team in Wales, it’s always an exciting adventure.  From plane to train to automobile is literally my journey each time I meet face to face with my team.  As I’m travelling and thinking about my goals for the week, I leverage DropTask on my phone to evaluate what needs to be accomplished.  I’m also a mom of four, so thoughts of what I need to do before I leave often consume me as I depart for my trip.  Leaving my family to head to Wales for the week can be stressful, but the ability to leverage DropTask to plan my departure makes the process much smoother and pain free.  For a lot of working moms, leaving on a business trip and knowing things are covered at home is critical so you can focus on the job at hand.  Personally, DropTask is my saviour, and the key is having wide access to my schedule and tasks exactly when I need it.

Travelling on the plane creates a bit of a productivity challenge for me. I like to be productive on the plane – but this requires me to be able to utilize a product in offline mode.  One that will sync whatever you input seamlessly when the internet becomes available.  I don’t want to have to think about waiting to get online when my creative juices are flowing, and one of the things I enjoy about working offline the most is the ability to channel creativity without the distraction of the internet itself.  Being inundated with emails popping in while you’re ‘in the zone’ and building your execution plan for the team is nothing less than distracting.  This is where I utilize DropTask on my phone and computer by putting myself in airplane mode either when required to by airline officials or when I simply want to disengage from the madness online.

I have had the pleasure to experience the Windows desktop release of DropTask in its early stages of development.  Kudos to our Windows development team lead by Ben Northmore who has provided me with this great new ability to work offline on my Windows device.   I can’t wait to share the beta release of DropTask for Windows with you all – it’s coming in the very near future.

For all those Mac fans out there, we’ve recently released the beta version to all DropTask PRO users to test as part of the exclusive Tester Program that you’re enrolled in as part of your PRO membership.  Our Mac development team has been hard at work to bring you an amazing experience using DropTask on the Mac, and the feedback in our Yammer Community has been extremely positive. I want to give a big shout out to the Mac development team lead by Krzysztof Nowak.

At DropTask our mission is to continue adding value to our product by allowing you, our customers, to leverage DropTask from your favorite device at any time.  DropTask is simple to use and requires absolutely no training, and our goal is to maintain this simplicity while providing enhanced integrations with the collaborative products that you’re already using every day.  So if like me, you’re in the fast lane and juggling multiple commitments on the go, then I urge you to get involved with our latest beta release of DropTask on Mac. We released DropTask PRO in March of 2014, and it’s exciting to see how far we have come in just one year. Our team is energized by the customer response that we’ve received on a global scale, and there’s nothing more exciting than when we see our customers post comments like “In the two weeks since we started using DropTask, it is already making a difference at our 120 person design firm” – Carl Davis, Chrome Web Store Review.  Words can’t express the gratitude we have for the legion of DropTask fans who vocalize the significant improvements they see in their productivity each and every day. Your support means everything.

Our goal remains to provide simplicity for the everyday user through our freemium product, while at that same time enhance our PRO version to give customers the ability to utilize more advanced functionality.  Connecting DropTask with some of your other favorite tools – as well as making it accessible across a multitude of devices, is important to us. This will become more transparent as we look at what’s coming up in our roadmap.

As we gathered as a team to understand our priorities and to discuss the evolution of DropTask earlier this year, we wanted to bring about better engagement with you, our customers.  Many SAAS companies create features and functionality within their products based on assumptions. That’s not our style. The most important goal of our team is to create a product that our customers absolutely “love” and enjoy using each and every day.  The feedback we’ve received from our customers demonstrates that we have accomplished that goal.  Now, we’re ready to take things to the next level.

DropTask Yammer Community

In today’s society, microblogging is a common way to engage with people across the globe and Facebook is a great example of understanding what people like and how they share their interests. As we looked to find the right microblogging tool to engage with our customers, we chose Yammer.

Microsoft Yammer allows us to leverage microblogging within our teams and with customers who are current and new.  So we’re excited to announce that we have created a DropTask Community where you – our valued customers, are invited to share feedback, suggestions and general thoughts directly with members of our team.  Creating a better connection to what you want from DropTask will result in a product that brings amazing value in managing peoples tasks and lives – and we’re here to make a difference.

Over the past year DropTask has provided a fun visual interface to outline your goals and to execute on your dreams – helping teams deliver exciting new products, plan amazing learning programs, and collaborate both internally and externally across organizations to deliver significant results. Customers are leveraging DropTask to provide insight into what’s happening; when does a task need to be completed, what is its priority and who is responsible? Meanwhile, the team here have been busy providing rich enhancements to the product that continue to provide value to our customers.

Over the coming months we will be introducing DropTask on Mac and Windows desktop – rounding out our device platforms and providing you with the ability to run DropTask in an offline mode. This means you’ll get the ability to manage projects and tasks from your desktop, mobile device, tablet and even through your favorite browser. We’ll soon be inviting members of DropTask PRO to an early access beta, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like more information.

Our two-way Evernote integration feature allows you to synchronize notes between an Evernote notebook and a DropTask Project, or synchronize your tasks between a DropTask project and an Evernote notebook.  This feature is currently available in beta, and is open to all DropTask PRO customers as part of our exclusive tester program. Bring life to your notes and get things done like never before with DropTask and Evernote!

Note taking has long been a part of our history, leveraged to capture historic events and to support us in scientific discoveries.  Taking notes is key to getting ideas and thoughts out of your mind and onto some material that will allow you to both clear your mind, and retain the thoughts and ideas for a later date. Most of us will have experienced that moment in time where you have an amazing idea or thought, but you know all too well that if you do not capture it quickly it will escape you possibly forever.  Have you ever found yourself panic stricken by the pure thought of losing that idea in the moment?

Well I know I have, that’s why I leverage DropTask to capture those ideas and put them someplace I know I will not forget to revisit and expand on when the time presents itself. With DropTask’s visual interface it allows for creative thoughts to develop in a fun and exciting way.  Having the DropTask app on my cell phone, which is almost always with me, is a way to capture my thoughts and ideas and set them aside for rediscovery when I have more time to expand on them.  Visually capturing my ideas and thoughts has never been more energizing and productive.

If I were to ask an audience of note takers what tool they utilized to take notes and capture their ideas, they would surely respond with many different answers.  Some might say they keep a traditional note pad and pencil on their nightstand, whereas others may use the voice recorder on their cell phone, or send a text to themselves so they don’t forget. It is likely some will even use the whiteboard in their office, but many would say they use a tool such as Evernote.

At DropTask we know how important it is to our users to be comfortable and effective in capturing information in your preferred tools. So, today we are announcing an exciting new integration with Evernote. Our integration with Evernote feature is currently being beta tested by some of our DropTask PRO users and will be publicly launched over the coming weeks.

How do you organize your email?

Ever had an email land in your inbox that you didn’t want to forget to act on?  We all have, right?

To get organized some of us create an abundance of folders and place our items in there. But it doesn’t take long until an email you once thought you were categorizing for later falls victim to ‘out of sight, out of mind’ and never gets a second look. Maybe you leverage the categories in Outlook instead, but still find that the massive amounts of incoming emails eventually become unbearable.
